Nutricosmetics? Glow From the Inside Out!

Q: What are Nutricosmetics?

A: The intake of supplements to improve the health and appearance of skin.

We all know that in order to lose weight, reduce our risk of diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol, etc. we must eat well. However, there are also more benefits to eating well that don't just impact us internally.

After all, our skin is an organ and what we put into our stomach influences all of our organ's overall health. So why wouldn't we just eat well or take certain vitamins to improve the appearance of our skin? Fixing your skin concerns can be as easy as popping a simple pill in the morning or mixing a powder into your daily water intake!

The term "nutricosmetics" has been buzzing since the mid-2014's and recently has spiked with the current health and fitness kick throughout the U.S. Many of us don't follow a strict diet or count our daily macro's- life is about balance after all, right?! So by implementing a supplement strategy into your daily diet and routine it will help fill the gaps in the rest of your nutrition.

Today there are multiple brands out there that target internal and external health and beauty with nutricosmetics. There has been an upward trend in targeting specific skin concerns: collagen increasing, skin clearing, skin brightening, etc.

However, if you had to choose only one- you want to look for a probiotic- which is naturally found in dairy products. If you are lactose intolerant, vegan, or just don't like dairy products- taking a probiotic supplement may be best for you. Even if you love dairy but you think it breaks your skin out- probiotic supplement! Think you're about to get sick? Probiotics.

Most probiotic formulas you will find are in a capsule form- except for Usana Health Sciences Probiotic, it's in a powder! But why? Since probiotics are active ingredients versus vitamin A, C, D, etc. they are much more sensitive. Thanks to Anna Park from +Composure Magazine, who interviewed John Cuomo, PhD., Usana executive director of product development and technology has the answer!

John Cuomo, PhD., Usana

"Probiotics are live bacteria that need special care in formulation. Tablets and capsules just don't offer that protection, especially once the bottle is opened."
